Poha Chivda (Chiwda) - How to Make Thin Poha Chivda

Poha chivda is a savoury snack which is beaten rice ( poha) that has been tempered with chilli and curry leaves . Nuts, coconut flakes and raisins are added to enhance the taste further. Ingredients

  • 350 gmsNylon Poha / Thin Poha
  • 4Green chilli
  • 10-15Curry Leaves
  • 1 tspMustard Seeds
  • 1/4 cupDry coconut flakes
  • 1/2 cupGroundnut
  • 1/2 cupCashew Nuts
  • 1 tspRaisins
  • 1 and 1/2 tspPowdered Sugar
  • 1/4 tspTurmeric powder
  • To tasteSalt

Method

  1. Step 1

    In a big wok roast poha for 5 mins or until they become a little crunchy in taste ( be careful you don't over roast them )

  2. Step 2

    Take out the roasted poha on a plate.

  3. Step 3

    In a small pan add 1 tsp oil and fry the coconut flakes until they change color and become a little brown.(do not let them turn black)

  4. Step 4

    In the big wok heat 1/4 cup oil.( do not over heat the oil or else the tempering might burn)

  5. Step 5

    Add mustard seeds, once they crackle add curry leaves and green chillies.

  6. Step 6

    Now add groundnuts and roast them for 2 minutes until they are well fried.

  7. Step 7

    Add cashewnuts and raisins and roast them for 2-3 minutes.

  8. Step 8

    Add turmeric powder, powdered sugar and salt.

  9. Step 9

    Now add the Poha and roasted dry coconut flakes .

  10. Step 10

    Mix well and take it off the gas stove.

  11. Step 11

    Take them out in a large bowl and mix well.

  12. Step 12

    Poha Chivda is ready to serve. Store it in an airtight container.
