Onion Fritters - Kanda Bhaji

Onion Pakoras are just the perfect food during cooler / rainy days. It is a very popular Mumbai street food. This is a classic finger food that no can resist for sure :)

Ingredients

  • 3 (finely sliced)Onion
  • 1/2 cupBesan
  • 2 tspRice Flour
  • 1 tspDeggi Mirch Powder
  • a pinchTurmeric powder ( Haldi)
  • 1/2 tspCoriander Powder
  • 1/4 tspCumin powder ( jeera)
  • 1/4 tspCarom Seeds ( Ajwain)
  • 1/4 tsp ( slightly crushed)Coriander seeds (Dhania)
  • 1/4 cup ( finely chopped)Coriander leaves
  • as per tastesalt
  • for deep fryingOil
  • Optional to sprinkle before servingChat Masala
  • to serveTomato Ketchup

Method

  1. Step 1

    Add salt to the sliced onions, mix well and keep aside for  a while.

  2. Step 2

    After a while the onions will leave some water, add all the powdered spices, coriander , carom seeds ( ajwain), coriander seeds and mix well.

  3. Step 3

    Add the Besan and rice flour and mix well.

  4. Step 4

    Heat oil for deep frying.

  5. Step 5

    Gradually start  dropping small portions of the batter into the hot oil and fry them until golden brown on slow to medium flame.( take care not the burn the onion too much)

  6. Step 6

    Serve them hot with a sprinkle of chaat Masala and  tomato Ketchup on the side.
