Mirchi Ka Salan (Fried Mild Chillies in Tangy Gravy)
Mirchi Ka Salan is a popular delicacy from the Andhra Pradesh region of India. It is a tangy gravy with fried big non spicy green chillies. The groundnut and sesame seeds add richness to the gravy. This dish is prepared as a special accompaniment with Biryanis. However it also tastes great with plain rice or chapatti.

Ingredients
- 4Big non spicy green chillies
- 1 ( finely chopped)Onion
- 3 tspTamarind pulp
- 1 tspRed Chilli Powder
- 1/4 tspTurmeric powder
- 2 tsp ( finely chopped)Coriander leaves
- 4 tspOil
- to tasteSalt
- For the Gravy Paste
- 1/4 cupGroundnut
- 1/4 cup ( grated)Dried Coconut
- 2 tbspSesame seeds ( Til)
- 2 tspCoriander seeds
- 1/4 tspCumin Seeds
- 3Dried Red Chilli
- a small pieceGinger
- 5 cloves ( small)Garlic
Method
- Step 1
Heat a pan and one by one dry roast groundnut, sesame seeds, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and coconut.
- Step 2
Add the roasted ingredients along with dried red chillies, ginger and garlic into a blender and also add a little water.
- Step 3
Blend it into a fine and smooth paste and keep aside.
- Step 4
In a pan, add 2 tsp oil and shallow fry the chillies until they are cooked from all sides.

In the same pan in which you fried the chillies add another 2 tsp oil.

Once the oil heats up add mustard seeds.
- Step 7
When the mustard seeds crackle add curry leaves and onion and sauté them until golden brown.

Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder and sauté.
- Step 9
Add the gravy paste and mix well.
- Step 10
Add 1 and ½ cups water and cover and let the gravy simmer for 5-6 minutes.

Add the tamarind pulp and salt as per taste.

Later open the cover and add fried chillies and chopped coriander to the gravy.
- Step 13
Cover and cook the gravy for a few minutes until the desired consistency.
- Step 14
Adjust the consistency by adding a little water if the gravy is too thick.
- Step 15
Serve hot and garnish with a fried chilli, sesame seeds and grated dry coconut. This gravy tastes amazing with any Biryani or even with plain rice or Chapatti.
