Prawns fry is an amazing starter. They not only look good they also taste yummy. This particular dish is a Malwani style fish fry recipe. It only requires minimal  ingredients and is very easy to cook. Make these and I am sure it will vow your guests.

Ingredients

  • 10 Big sizedPrawns
  • 2 tspGinger garlic paste
  • 1 tspMalwani Masala or Deggi Mirch powder
  • a pinchTurmeric powder
  • 6-7 ( kokum soaked in 2 tsp water)Kokum or Lemon Juice
  • to tastesalt
  • For the coating
  • 4 tspRice Flour
  • 2 tspSemolina ( Sooji/Rava)
  • 1 tspMalwani Masala or Deggi Mirch powder
  • to tastesalt

Method

  1. Step 1

    Clean and devein the prawns and keep their tails intact ( they look good for presentation purpose)

  2. Step 2

    Marinate and rub the prawns with turmeric powder, Kokum or lemon juice, ginger garlic paste, Malwani Masala and salt. Keep aside for 10 minutes.

  3. Step 3

    For the coating mix all the ingredients rice flour, sooji, Malwani Masala (or red chilli powder ) and salt.

  4. Step 4

    Coat the prawns in rice and sooji  mixture.

  5. Step 5

    Heat 3 tsp oil on a skillet.

  6. Step 6

    Place the prawns and shallow fry them on both sides until golden brown. Add more oil if required.

  7. Step 7

    Prawns do not take long to cook. Generally they should be done in 5-7 minutes. However it depends on the size of the prawn.

    Serve it on a plate with onion discs , lemon wedge and coriander for garnish.

    The Malwani Masala that is used for this recipe is blend of dried red chillies and garam masala. It is easily available in any of the Indian spice stores. In case you do not find it, you may alternatively use Deggi Mirch powder.
