Mango Dal
Plain dal can be pepped up by adding a simple ingredient like Mango. This dal is a typical Andhra style classic however I have modified according to my taste. Goes so well with hot steamed rice and pickle on the side :)

Ingredients
- 1/2 cupToor dal (Pigeon Pea)
- 1/2 cup ( cut into cubes)Raw Mango
- For Tadka ( tempering)
- for temperingOil and ghee
- 1/2 tspCumin ( zeera)
- a pinchHing
- 2 sprigsCurry Leaves
- 1Green chilli
- 1/2 tspMustard Seeds (Rai)
- 1/4 tspTurmeric powder ( Haldi)
- 1/2 tsp ( to balance out the sourness )Jaggery ( gudh)
- as per tasteSalt
Method
- Step 1
Cook the dal and mango pieces together in a pressure cooker until 2 whistles and keep aside.
- Step 2
For tempering the dal
- Step 3
Heat 1 tbsp. of ghee and 2 tsp oil in a pan.
- Step 4
Add mustard and cumin seeds and let them crackle.
- Step 5
Add green chillies,curry leaves , turmeric powder and hing .
- Step 6
Add the dal and some water as per the desired consistency.
- Step 7
Add salt and Jaggery to balance out the sourness of the raw mango.
- Step 8
Bring it to a boil.
- Step 9
Add salt and coriander leaves and let it boil for another 2-3 mins.
- Step 10
Garnish with raw mango , coriander leaves and serve hot.
